Ever wonder where your used oil filter ends up after an oil change? Most likely the dump or the closest landfill. At Pit Stop, we don't think draining and recycling your oil is enough. A spent filter doesn't belong in the trash either — even after crushing, it still holds 3-4 oz. of oil, and we consider that unacceptable. So we found a way to keep that waste out of the ground.

1. We start by cutting each filter open, splitting out every component, and letting the parts drain on a rack for a few hours. The oil that drains off is gathered up and recycled along with the rest of our used oil.
	2. The filter cores and the outer metal casings go into separate buckets and get washed with a non-toxic detergent. In the washer, a slow-turning wheel lifts the oil off the surface of the waste water and drains it into a container. That oil is recycled as well.
3. Once dried, the filter cores are shipped out to be used as industrial fuel. The metal casings are crushed right here at Pit Stop and then sent off for recycling.
	Keep used oil filters out of the trash to protect soil and ground water. When Pit Stop U.S.A. changes your oil, both the used oil and the filter are recycled or reclaimed.
